Barefoot Landing Resort Marina

BALD HEAD TO MYRTLE BEACH

Report by Jim and Anne Freeman

Sunday night’s wind was as vicious as a Lion and then. became a Lamb as the night matured. At 0555 the Engines of the ferry broke the silence as she prepared to return the Bald head Weekenders to their other life on shore.  But just behind the Ferry came Cameo out of Baldhead in route to our next destination at Myrtle Beach.  Annie Girl and Maturity Rules were underway at 0630.  Snowdrift passed at Southport at 07:15 arriving first at Barefoot Resort where she assisted in docking the other nine boats.

Scenery was interesting with large resort homes on the beach (port ) side and smaller, older homes with long piers reaching out into the waterway on the right (starboard).

In Shallotte, a gambling boat, Diamond Casino,
was docked as if she were part of the land.
Several more Gambling Boats have big business
going at Little River, S.C.

Lockwood Folly and the Sunset Pontoon Bridge
were our only challenges for the trip.  Timing to be
at a bridge that allows passage only once per hour
is an interesting exercise.

The body of land between the ICW and the Atlantic Ocean is so narrow that you frequently get a nice view of the surf.  This is especially true at the major inlets.

Barefoot Resort is directly across from the famous Barefoot Landing where we are looking forward to shopping,
fine restaurants and the Alabama theatre for the next four days.
