Report from Mark -
Following two days in Wilmington, it was time for Bernan, Up tha Crick and
Water Music to continue their trip north. In order to do so, however, they
first had to travel 10 miles south on the Cape Fear River before rejoining
the ICW at Snow's Cut. The departure was timed to minimize the time that
would be spent fighting the current. That, combined with calm winds after
the previous evening's frontal passage, meant that the Cape Fear River did
not live up to its name, much to the relief of the crews. There were a few
light showers in the morning, but the passage was uneventful. Bernan and
Water Music were already docked and waiting for Up tha Crick when
suddenly—and unexpectedly—Tara appeared in the Harbour Village Marina
basin. The Dowlings had left Southport Marina that morning and decided to
spend the evening at Harbour Village. So, with four Southern Cruise boats
assembled, the second pot luck dinner of the cruise was held at Harbour
Village. Tara will push on tomorrow hoping to get back to Fairfield
Harbour a couple of days early, while the other three boats will head for
Casper's Marina in Swansboro.
Report from Bernie -
June 2, we woke up to a cool morning and started downstream on the Cape
Fear River in a shower or two. We did see low water at the entrance to
Snows' Cut. Arrived at Harbour Village and was pleasantly surprised to
have the Dowlings on TARA to join us . We celebrated with a
SPLASH/ POTLUCK in the Club house room which included The Teuberts,
Terrills, Wests and the Dowlings. Barbara West corrected the "who walked
on the beach" puzzle and gave out prized to all 3 couples!
