Wilmington City Docks

Report from Mark -

Much of Sunday was spent exploring historic Wilmington. After seeing the crew of Maturity Rules off for their trip home, the Teuberts and the Wests were shown around Wilmington by longtime resident Bob Jenkins. Our 2-hour tour ended up taking 3 ½ hours to complete, but there is little about Wilmington's history that we now don't know! Following the tour we retreated to the Front Street Brewery for some excellent fish and chips and a locally produced ale to accompany the meal. Meanwhile, the Terrills were entertained by relatives of theirs who reside in Wilmington. They returned to the city docks in time for the evening's captains' meeting and splash, which was followed by a squall line that brought high winds and lightning.

Report from Bernie -

June 1, the first day of hurricane season. Woke up to cool sunny morning.  We helped Maturity Rules off the dock as they are heading to Caspers' today.  The Wests and Teuberts will join the Wilmington Historical 3 hour walking  this am, while the Terrills join up with Glenn's brother and wife for lunch and time together. The walking tour guide was most interesting historical facts which included the history of gold rice, cotton plantations, natural timber, pitch tar, turpentine, and other ship building and nautical products. The 40ft deep channel was the most attractive reason for the settling and development of Wilmington.  Wilmington had 3 major fires in its history. Economic booms came first with the sailing ships and then the railroad and then the Universities and attraction of corporate headquarters. After splash we had a major thunder storm.
