Dear John:

What a thrill this trip has been for a nature lover like me! I have seen so many birds flying, wading and hovering. Herons, all four kinds of egrets, peeps, curlews and sandpipers walked along the shoreline. Bald eagles, Black vultures, Royal and Least terns and cormorants hovered overhead. The crew on Aqua Base were the only people to see Wood storks. Colorful Black skimmers dragging their lower mandible in the water and American oystercatchers attracted my attention since I don’t often see them.  Dolphins surfed our bow and stern waves every day. Alligators watched us as we cruised
on by!

However, John, the highlight so far was the Prothonotary warbler that responded to my bird call and flew out of the shrubbery and landed on the handrail of Piccolo. He was resplendent in full bright yellow breeding plumage. He was too quick for a photo op!

Just for your information the 20 question environmental quiz was won by Ruth and Glenn on “Up tha’ Crick”

Sincerely,
Olwen Jarvis, Your nature nut Commodore!
