MAY 16

DAY 9

Bay Creek Marina and Resort
to
York River Yacht Haven

Most cruisers experienced extremely overcast skies
and a little bit of rain on the way to York River.

However, the skies cleared and for the most part
we had a nice day.   However, during our splash
it started raining and the splash was cut short.

7:30 am departure from Bluewater Yachting Center on the Hampton River was suggested due to predicted small craft warnings starting at noon.   We cruised up to the York River in 1-2' waves and arrived safely at York River Yacht Haven.

Many trips were made to a local Food Lion using the marina car.    Some ventured to the River Inn, the local marina restaurant for dinner while others eat on-board.   Karen and Walt were picked up by friends who live in Williamsburg.

Dominoes were played aboard Ber-Nan and the winner is yet to be determined.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later that one of our cruisers would experience a mishap.    It all started when George....
pumped 40 gallons of gas in Snowdrift's gas tank.  Unfortunately, almost immediately the engines cut out and could not be restarted.    Luckily for Snowdrift, the fuel distributor was on the premises and we figured out that we had to have gotten bad gas.  The mechanic, Steve used a portable fuel tank so Snowdrift could get started  (we also needed to clean the fuel filters because of the bad gas) and we were able to motor over to the boat yard.   Snowdrift was hauled out so it's fuel tank could be emptied and John Phillips brought over a gas truck with new fuel and Snowdrift was filled up.   Engines started right up and we were given a new slip.   It was an extremely stressful day (mostly for Janet) but everything seems to have worked out okay.    The marina owner Dan and son Danny, Steve the mechanic and John, the fuel distributor stepped up and took good care of us.   Janet and Ken were treated to a wonderful dinner at the River Inn  (which has recently been renovated with new owners,  John's wife Tina and her Dad who is the chef).

Moral of the story... don't let George pump you gas or diesel.
He is after all from the horse and buggy era.

Some are not...

And some are just telling stories.

All is well, that ends well.    Beautiful rainbow after a 5 pm rain shower.
A good omen for Snowdrift as she was going to a new slip after a crummy day.

(p.s.   Mom - don't worry about us....   we're okay)
