MARINE ASSISTANCE---OPERATIONS The Marine Assistance Committee members are volunteers who have offered a service to the FHYC membership. One of the committee members is usually available to offer assistance to a fellow member who is experiencing a mechanical problem or is aground. It is unreasonable to ask them to travel more than five miles from Fairfield Harbour or to attempt assistance that should be undertaken by a professional towing service. All marine assistance personnel should wear life jackets when involved in a marine assistance mission.
1. It is highly recommended that you carry a cell phone to initiate marine assistance. The telephone number for the Security Gate is 636-5566. Security will call one of the Marine Assistance Committee members who are also listed under Marine Assistance Committee in this book. 2. If you fail to raise a response when phoning FHYC or if you do not have a cell phone aboard, you may call Northwest Creek Marina on Channel 16 and ask them to phone one of the Marine Assistance Committee Members. They have a list of the current members. 3. A Marine Assistance Committee person will call you on their VHF radio as soon as they can get to their boat to discuss your problem and determine an action plan. A copy of this procedure should be kept on your boat. 4. If you have an injured person aboard or your boat is in danger of sinking, you should call the Coast Guard on your VHF radio or if in local waters, you could ask Security or Northwest Creek Marina to call 911 and they will respond with proper rescue service.
