On behalf of the
Flag Officers and the membership, I am pleased to welcome you to the
website of the Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club. Throughout its comparatively
short history,
our club has endeavored to serve its members and to
promote safe and fun boating. This website is just one communications
tool to help achieve these aims.
FHYC was founded in 1984 to promote
cruising and racing, the science of seamanship, safety on the waterways
and fellowship. The club is unique in that we do not own or lease any
physical facilities. The majority of our members keep their boats behind
their homes or at
Northwest Creek Marina. Membership is approximately 210 families and
is limited to residents of Fairfield Harbour, a gated community in
coastal NC, 6 miles southeast of New Bern.
The Club's boating season begins in
March and runs through December, while the social season runs year
round. Regatta events include two Ensign series per year, Sunday dinghy
racing, and two major events: the Wilkerson Cup and the Oar Race. The
Club sponsors cruises from April through November, including day cruises
and Raft-ups. This full calendar offers a variety of activities and
camaraderie for all.
The Club's success is owed to its
members who willingly take active roles in putting on Club functions.
This and a policy of minimal capital expenditures allow FHYC to maintain
very low dues to enhance the attractiveness of the Club to the boating
community.
We welcome new members who enjoy
what we do and who wish to participate actively in the club. We expect
all members to take some part in the work of the Club, doing whatever
the member's talents and interests dictate. We emphasize this because
those who enter into the work of the Club seem to be those who get the
most pleasure from their membership.
Visiting boats are usually
accommodated at our members’ private docks and/or moorings or by
anchoring in the Inner Harbour of the
Fairfield Harbour community. Please
contact the Commodore at least one week in advance so arrangements
may be made for your visit.
